Electronic Toll Collection in India

The National Highway Authority of India has launched a program across the country for the electronic toll collection at toll plazas on National Highways through a device called the FASTag.

FASTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to deduct toll payments at the toll directly from your bank account or a prepaid wallet linked to it. The device is mounted on the windscreen of your vehicle and lets you drive through the toll plaza without having to halt and make cash payments every time. It promotes non-stop movement of vehicles through toll plazas and cashless payment of toll fees with the interoperable toll collection services installed nation-wide.

FASTag has been mandatory by the Government of India, for all vehicles being registered from 1st December 2017 onwards.
